Number of wolf attacks has risen sharply: an increase of 40 percent
Aug 21, 2025, 10:43 AM
The number of wolf attacks on sheep and other livestock has increased significantly, according to data from BIJ12, an organization that handles wolf cases for the province. In the first six months of 2025, 497 attacks on animals were recorded, compared to 360 in the same period a year earlier.
In about 85 percent of all cases, landowners had not taken sufficient preventive measures to prevent damage by wolves, according to data from BIJ12.
Wolf Bram recently attacked a young child, which led to the closure of his area. The video below tells you more about this latest incident involving Wolf Bram:

The actual number of attacks could be even higher. Farmers are not required to report an attack to BIJ12. Moreover, only attacks where it has been established with certainty that the damage was caused by a wolf are included. BIJ12 has now processed almost all reports for the first half of 2025.
