New Swedish company, need help to understand the market

#58189 Hi My name is Maciek Koterba and i started few month ago a brushing/planting company and would like to get some information.
We are trying to get customers in Sweden in Vasternorland, Jampland area. Do you have some tips for us how we can reach the customers so we could get some contracts, take part in offerings / anbud.
Do you know any websites where offerings/ambuds about rojning/planting are published?
Would really appreciated any information concerning this matter...
Have a nice day.

#58358 I think you really need to employ some people that knows swedish very well if you are gonna have any chance to get much work.... Its mostly during the fall and during the winter you can get work for the next season, if you are gonna work with the big forest companies. But right now its kinda hard to get thinningworks... Mostly becuase of the world economy.....

If the boss doesnt know swedish it will be difficult...

Re: New Swedish company, need help to understand the market

#58385 thank you for your answer!
I'm talking to some Swedish people willing to work with us and already asking them to make certificates so our company can fulfill demands set buy companies who are on the market
we will see...
as about the Swedish language known by me i know that this would make things much easier but learning here in the school is impossible because of the time frame
i'm learning from the speaking and i hope my language skills will improve enough to be able to communicate and as well people will have enough courage to speak, because in the end most of the Swedish people know English...
thanks again for your time to write...
ale the best

#58386 The big companies are often certified by PEFC, and your company needs to take a test to show your knowledge about forestry. I´m guessing you´re Polish and I know that the test can be had in different languages, polish is one of them.
I think you have to make contact with the big companies to get started, like SCA, StoraEnso and so on.
It´s getting too late to get new contracts for this year but good luck any way!

It might be easier to start as a employee to learn how it all works here.

#58402 Hi thanks a lot for your kind advices. You guessed right, I'm from Poland :)
And i started working on getting PEFC already last year. Is just hard to invest in all these required certificates if you have not much money just lot's of will and passion :)
But we are doing our best.
About the offers finished for this year, i know that is hard, but i just expected that after sending our offer to all the biggest companies ( we sent more than 150 offers in October 2008 to many Swedish companies like SCA, Mellan Skog, Norrskog, Holmen Skog, Sveaskog and more), some of them will contact us back and inform/invite, take in to the consideration our company when they organized tender/anbud. But they didn't so we need to move on, and i understand this completely, i know that here in Sweden specially in the north you need to work a lot on the personal basis. And this is interesting, but in the same time in my opinion if in Sweden don't exist structured, public clear tender/anbud system that this can create a base for bribery. In Poland for example every company which is organizing a tender above certain amount have to publish it in special newspaper so every interested company can submit their offer. And if they will not meet requirements set they are loosing but if they meet and the price is good and this is usually the most important issue for the ordering company than they will win. Here i think as well the company history matters, but this shouldn't be main factor to remove a new company from the offering.
One thing is for sure that we are learning a lot about this business and this is very valuable knowledge, if we should succeed than we will, if not i will just go back to China to sell hot water in Beijing :)
And this is our attitude ( you know, we have to see the glass half full :)
Big thanks for your time!
Have a good weekend.

#58408 Dont forget that Sweden is alot more than Holmen and SCA and Sveaskog...
I think that part of Sweden concerns about their working knowing the language so they get exactly what they want....

Re: New Swedish company, need help to understand the market

#58696 There have been companies from Poland that has been able to set a really low price on their offering and by that taking a lot of work from small swedish companies that has to pay decent salary for their workers. There's no way that a swedish company can lower the prices further due to the high taxes, insurances, salaries etc
Actually most of the "bad" companies has been working for a swedish company under a second hand contract, this has been done to get around the laws that an employer has to follow, in real life the polish workers have been employees but on the record they were polish companies....

But that's not a problem if you are a serious entrepreneur who plays by the book. Maybe you should try to get some contracts further down south?

#58711 I understand, is just not very good if somebody is writing on this board some accusations without substance.
I'm not afraid of people who just throw empty accusations on others, is easy to hide behind a computer and try to spread rumors, I know this kind of people, they can only destroy and will never build anything good.

I'm trying to do good job and run my business according to the Swedish law and agreement signed with Swedish workers union.
We pay our workers on accord basis so the average payment per hour is more than in collective agreement with the union, we cover workers insurance, accommodation and petrol to work. As we are new and we really have not much money or stable contracts, we can't give much more extra benefits which we would like to give in normal circumstances to our workers.

I don't think we offer lower prices than others and I understand that this would hit us back. We have more and more friends in other companies doing the same work, so why should we make a problems for them and being viewed as doing something unfair.
We don't want to run this company for one year, we want to establish god organism which is working well and provide good living for everybody involved.

And if somebody have something to say against my company, please use facts and take responsibilities for your words by saying your name.

Here is my name, my email and phone number

If anybody want more information about my company please contact me.
Enjoy!

Re: New Swedish company, need help to understand the market

#58728 Of course many of us dont want any more competition, because then we will never be able to get better price/ha....

And as what palms wrote earlier, is that some companies from outside of sweden comes here and lower the prices so much so we cant afford to work...

But as long as its a serious company then there is no problem....

If it wouldnt have been for the problems in the world finace then there wouldnt have been any problems to find work but this year its pretty difficult.... very many new companies have started this year and the old companies have much easier to keep their workers from last year and so on....

Good luck with the jobsearch :) (as long as you dont work to close to umea) :P

btw my english is terrible but i know that!
